Chinese martial arts use weapons of a very wide variety. These are classified by major families: broadswords, straightswords, long weapons, flexible weapons, double weapons and fans. Alternatively, we propose a navigation by ranges, highlighting the technical orientation and budget: "Classic", entry-level ; "Athlete", modern practice and competition ; "Tradition", robust weapons and advanced practice ; "Master", high-class for expert practitioners.
The straightsword is the noble weapon of Chinese martial arts. It is widely used in internal styles such as Tai Chi Chuan. Modern Wushu favors very flexible blades with noisy handling, while rigid to slightly flexible blades are more appreciated for traditional Tai Chi Chuan and Kung Fu.
Broadsword is certainly the most popular Kungfu weapon. It is used in both internal and external styles, all over China, with some variations in the shape of the blades and handles. Modern Wushu favors very flexible blades with noisy handling, while rigid to slightly flexible blades are more appreciated for traditional Tai Chi Chuan and Kung Fu.
Staffs, spears, poles, halberds and other more exotic weapons, the panel of long weapons used in Chinese martial arts is vast. Many of these weapons are of agrarian origin, some even monastic. The monks of Shaolin were particularly illustrious in the use of long weapons.
Chains, ropes, tri section staffs, nunchaku (...) the variety of flexible weapons used in Chinese martial arts is very specific. Some of them remain quite exotic, while others have become very famous. These weapons have a playful but very technical use, which requires great precautions.
Knives, broadswords, straightswords, hooks, rings, axes ... Chinese martial arts, whether internal or external, have a wide range of weapons handled in pairs. Some of these weapons are particularly famous as the Hu Die Dao (Wing Chun and Southern styles knives) or Shuang Yue (Ba Gua and internal styles half-moons).
Diverted from its original use, the fan has become a reputed weapon of Chinese martial arts and more particularly in Tai Chi Chuan. Its very visual and noisy handling makes it the ideal accessory for your individual or synchronized demonstrations. Its structure is usually made of bamboo or metal.
